This inaugural conference is designed to foster community, connection, and belonging among Black students who often find themselves in the minority within their school communities. Students will engage in inspiring and interactive sessions focused on leadership development, identity, financial literacy, academic success and time management, and college preparation. The day will also include a keynote speaker, dynamic breakout workshops, a Resource Village, and entertainment.
Resource Village & Workshop
Our Resource Village will feature community-based organizations and college representatives, along with parent-focused breakout sessions, including The Black Minds Matter Report presented by The EdTrust-West with Niambi Clay, a college preparation workshop led by Cañada College.
Please Spread the Word to Youth
We would be honored to have middle and high school students living in or attending school in San Mateo County to join us for this historic event. They will be part of an empowering experience that uplifts Black student voices across San Mateo County. Parents and caregivers are warmly invited to attend as well. Please share our flier to help youth affirm their belonging and strengthen connection to community.
If you have any questions or would like to explore ways we can collaborate to support student participation, email info@bachac.org or call 650-204-1611.
Joining the Black Youth Advisory Board (BlackYAB) was a great opportunity for me. It helped me to gain more confidence and improve my social skills. It also benefited me by encouraging me to speak up for others’ voices when they are not heard. Also, when doing BlackYAB it made me feel like I wasn’t a minority. To sum this up, I would say BlackYAB is amazing. Thank you for making me feel that way.
Angelica Whitted, 11th Grade, Youth Leader with the Black Youth Advisory Board
